Here are five steps to transfer money from your cash app account into your direct express bank account. The process is pretty simple, so if you’re looking for a way to make it happen in just a few easy steps, we’ve got you covered.
Step 1: Sign up for both apps
To transfer money, you’ll need both direct express and cash app. Sign up for each and then confirm your accounts with your information. Once you’ve established your account, tap continues in the upper right corner of either screen. You’re now ready to send and receive money. If you don’t have a debit card linked to your account yet, make sure you add one before continuing.
Step 2: Link your bank account
You’ll need to link your cash app to a bank account to transfer money from your bank account. Log into your cash app account and select Cash Card, located in the top right-hand corner of your screen. Once you enter Transfer at the top, there are two options: Deposit which transfers money INTO your cash app balance, and Transfer which transfers money OUT OF your cash app balance into a linked bank account. Select Transfer. You will then be prompted to choose how much you want to transfer (you can only transfer up to $1,000 per day). Then select Link Account once you have decided how much you want to send out of your cash app balance.
Step 3: Get verified
You must verify your identity to move your cash or money from direct express to the cash app. Here are the steps you need to follow:

After you’ve completed Step 2, you should receive an email with a link that will take you back to Cash App. Click Verify Account on that page (you might need to log in again). Then enter your phone number and hit Submit at the bottom of your screen. Once we receive a text message with a code from Cash App, enter it into our system—and voila! You’re verified! Now go ahead and transfer away. 🙂
Step 4: Send and Receive Money (Cash out)
You will need to transfer money into your bank account to cash out. This is easy as it’s exactly like sending or receiving money. To do so:
- Tap your wallet icon and navigate where it says Transfer.
- Once you’re there, tap Transfer Money in Person, then choose Bank Account.
- Enter how much you want to send (or cash out). When you are ready to hit Next, you can choose any amount up to $9000 per day.
You will then be prompted to enter your bank information for verification purposes. Enter all of that information and hit Submit. It may take a few days for your money to show up in your bank account, depending on what type of account it is, but after that, you are good to go!
Step 5: Send and Receive Payments (Cash in)
After you link your direct express card, you can send and receive payments through your cash app. First, tap Spend (the green rectangle with a dollar sign on the bottom of your screen), then tap Pay Friends (the icon that looks like a person). Type in a friend’s username or email address—or select them from your contacts list—and then enter how much you want to pay them. They will be prompted to download a cash app if they don’t have a cash app. Once they do, they will see your payment and be able to accept it by tapping Accept in their notifications tab.
